Originally made for a game development class, Realmblazers is a short tactical role playing game in which you must battle monsters across different environments to rescue your friends, restore your party, and defeat the Demon King! Stage select allows direct selection of a level, but only Begin will start the opening cutscene. Full-screen for best experience, or download to get rid of the crappy static sounds in the second stage.

RULES: Each unit may make one movement per turn. The unit may then choose to use an action or Wait to end their turn. A movement or action can be canceled before confirming by reselecting the unit or pressing ESC. Movements cannot be performed after an action. If a unit enters combat with another unit, the defending unit will have a chance to counterattack using their first listed action if they survive and are in range. Damage is calculated by using the attacking unit's attack stat corresponding to the action type (physical vs. magical), adding the action's power, and subtracting the defender's corresponding defense stat. Note that the grid uses Manhattan distance, so diagonal tiles are considered two tiles away, Fire Emblem style! After all units have used an action or Waited, the phase ends and the enemy phase begins, cycling back to your phase after all enemy units act. Maneuver your units to minimize damage taken while taking out enemies to secure victory!

DISCLAIMER: As this was made for a class project with no budget nor dedicated artists, this game contains visual assets generated by AI. I do not personally condone the training of AI on artwork without artists' consent, imitation of artists' styles using AI without artists' consent, nor the commercialization of artwork that had no human involvement in its creation.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:

Hey, thanks so much for checking out Realmblazers! This is a modified version of what we originally submitted for class with a couple of bug fixes and tooltips added to enhance clarity of the game. The game is tuned for players newer to the tactical RPG genre, so veterans might find it a little too easy, but I hope everyone can still have an enjoyable experience with it. While I've already credited them, a huge, HUGE shoutout to Ashton, Emily, and Connie for working on this with me! They're some of the most amazing people I met while at university, and I can't thank them enough for acquiescing to my begging that we do a TRPG for our class project despite none of us having experience making one (or them barely having game development experience at all, which only makes it all the more impressive). I've always wanted to make one since I've only ever done platformers, and while we had to cut a few corners, I'm still really glad we made what we did. I wish I'd picked up game development half as quickly as they did when I was first starting out, and I can only hope I get to work on a game with any of them in the future again someday.

Like the music? I also happened to co-write the theme for Staccoons while working on it, an entry I was part of for the 2024 GMTK Game Jam! If you're interested, check it out here! https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2024/rate/2914635
